Polypipe Polyurethane Expanding Foam Glue for Overlay UFH Panels PB776
PB776 Overlay™ & Overlay™ Lite Polyurethane Expanding Foam
The Polypipe PB776 Polyurethane Expanding Foam Glue is the correct adhesive for bonding Polypipe Overlay™ and Overlay™ Lite underfloor heating floor panels together during installation. Applied as a 3mm bead along the top edge of each panel before laying, the expanding polyurethane foam cures to form a rigid, permanent bond between adjacent panel edges and between panels and the Overlay end returns (PB08573) — creating a monolithic, movement-free panel assembly that holds the 12mm pipe grooves in alignment across the full floor area. Suitable for both Overlay™ and Overlay™ Lite systems. Not for use with solid floor panels (PB08576).
Why a Specialist Adhesive?
The Polypipe Overlay system relies on panels bonded together in a continuous interlocking grid. As the 12mm pipe is routed through the panel grooves and end returns, the entire floor assembly acts as a rigid substrate that must not shift, separate, or allow panel edges to lift during and after installation. Standard construction adhesives — PVA, grab adhesives, tile adhesive — do not provide the combination of properties required: fast tack, expanding fill to bridge minor panel edge gaps, compatibility with the expanded polystyrene or gypsum board panel materials, and sufficient bond strength to resist the tension of laid pipework.
The PB776 polyurethane expanding foam adhesive provides all of these properties in a single product. The foaming action fills any minor surface irregularities between panel edges, maximising contact area and bond strength. The cured foam is rigid, lightweight, and compatible with all Overlay panel materials. Using PB776 — rather than a substitute adhesive — ensures the panel installation meets Polypipe's system requirements and prevents panel separation over the lifetime of the installation.
Step-by-Step Application
- Prepare panel edges. Clean the top edges of the panel to be glued — remove any dust, dirt, or debris. The bonding surface must be clean for full adhesion.
- Apply adhesive bead. Apply a continuous 3mm bead of PB776 foam glue to the top edge of the panel being bonded. Do not over-apply — a 3mm bead is sufficient; excess foam will expand into the pipe grooves.
- Position and align. Lay the panel flat on the floor, aligning the pipe grooves with the corresponding grooves in the adjacent panel and with the channel in the Overlay end return. Short cut-off lengths of 12mm pipe can be used to help align the groove positions during placement.
- Glue successive panels. Lay the first full row of panels, gluing each panel-to-panel joint and each panel-to-end-return joint. Use hand pressure to seat each panel firmly before the adhesive begins to cure.
- Keep grooves clear. When applying adhesive at panel ends (where end returns connect), ensure no adhesive enters the pipe grooves — this would prevent the pipe from sitting correctly in the groove. Use short offcut pipe in the grooves during gluing at end return positions to mask the groove openings if needed.
- Allow to cure. Allow the adhesive to cure before running pipe through the assembly. Cure time will depend on temperature and humidity — refer to the product datasheet for specific working and curing times.

⚠️ Keep Pipe Grooves Clear of Adhesive
When applying PB776 at panel end joints (where Overlay end returns connect), take care to prevent adhesive from entering the 12mm pipe groove. Even a small amount of cured foam inside the groove will prevent the pipe from seating correctly, which in turn prevents the end return from aligning properly. Use short offcut pieces of 12mm pipe inserted into the groove openings to mask them while applying adhesive to the surrounding panel edge. Remove the offcut pipe before routing the circuit pipe.
