SolaX X1-BOOST G4 2.5–6kW Single-Phase String Inverter – Dual MPPT, 200% PV Oversizing, IP66

The SolaX X1-BOOST G4 is a fourth-generation single-phase on-grid string inverter available in eight power ratings from 2.5 kW to 6 kW, designed specifically for UK and European residential solar installations. Built around a fanless natural-cooling architecture, a 50 V low-startup voltage, and dual independent MPP trackers rated to 16 A each, the X1-BOOST G4 handles today's high-power panels — including 210 mm half-cut and bifacial modules — straight out of the box. With 200% PV oversizing supported on all models, a single inverter can manage arrays up to 12,000 Wp (on the 6 kW variant), capturing more energy during low-irradiance morning and evening periods that are typical of the UK climate.

Beyond pure generation, the X1-BOOST G4 offers a compelling smart-energy toolkit: built-in export control, parallel operation of up to five inverters without an external EMS, native compatibility with SolaX-branded smart EV chargers and heat pumps, AFCI arc-fault protection (optional), Type II DC and AC surge protection, and 10-second data refresh via SolaX Cloud. All models ship with a 2 × LED + LCD display and support Wi-Fi, LAN, or 4G dongles for cloud monitoring. Certified to G98/G99, IEC 61727, EN 50549 and a wide range of European grid standards, the X1-BOOST G4 is MCS-compatible and DNO-notification-ready for the UK market.

Installer Note: Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician in compliance with BS 7671 and IEC 60364-7-712. The DC switch must be in the OFF position during all wiring. After disconnecting AC and DC supplies, internal capacitors retain hazardous voltage for up to 5 minutes — do not open the enclosure or touch terminals within this period. All DC cable runs should be kept as short as possible and positive/negative conductors bundled together to minimise inductive loops.
Grid Connection: For UK residential installations the X1-BOOST G4 is certified to G98 / G99. Note that under G98/G99 and TOR/PPDS the maximum AC output apparent power of the 3.6 kW model is 3,680 VA (not 4,048 VA) and the max. output current is 16 A (not 17.6 A). Confirm the applicable grid code with your DNO before commissioning. Export limiting is built into the inverter and configurable without additional hardware.
Monitoring & Connectivity: Pocket Wi-Fi, LAN, and 4G dongles are all compatible via the single DONGLE port. The optional new-generation Wi-Fi dongle enables 10-second cloud data refresh on SolaX Cloud. The CT/Meter port supports both a current transformer (optional accessory) and a smart meter for precise import/export measurement. An RS485 port enables integration with third-party energy management systems via Modbus.
WHAT MAKES THE X1-BOOST G4 STAND OUT
200% PV Oversizing & 16 A Input

Every model in the X1-BOOST G4 range accepts twice its rated AC output in PV array power. The 6 kW model, for example, handles up to 12,000 Wp of panel capacity. Combined with a maximum PV input current of 16 A per MPPT (Isc 22 A), the inverter is fully compatible with modern high-power 420–440 W panels and bifacial modules — no need to derate the string configuration.

Dual Independent MPP Trackers

Two fully independent MPPT channels — each with its own 40–560 V tracking range — allow strings on different roof orientations, tilts, or shading profiles to be optimised simultaneously. This is especially valuable on UK properties with east/west split arrays or partially shaded roofs, where a single-MPPT inverter would force the whole array to the weaker string's operating point.

50 V Low-Startup Voltage

The inverter begins generating as soon as string voltage reaches just 50 V DC — far lower than many competing models. In UK conditions this translates to earlier morning generation and later evening generation, capturing energy from the extended low-angle sun periods that a higher startup threshold would miss. Over a year, this adds measurable kWh yield on every installation.

Fanless Natural Cooling — IP66

The X1-BOOST G4 uses passive thermal management with no fan as standard (an optional internal fan is available for demanding installations). The IP66-rated enclosure is fully weatherproof, allowing outdoor wall mounting without additional shelter. Operating range is –25°C to +60°C, storage temperature –30°C to +70°C. Typical noise output is just 25 dB — near-silent in a domestic setting.

Parallel Operation — Up to 5 Inverters

Multiple X1-BOOST G4 units can be operated in a Master/Slave parallel configuration via Modbus, supporting up to five inverters per installation without an external Energy Management System. This makes the X1-BOOST G4 the right tool for larger residential roofs where a single single-phase inverter reaches its limit — simply add units as the array grows, up to 30 kW aggregate output with five 6 kW units.

Smart Load Management

The G4 generation introduces native smart load control for compatible SolaX EV chargers and heat pumps, enabling excess solar generation to be directed to these high-power loads automatically — without a separate controller. Combined with the built-in export control function and CT/meter input, the inverter handles both zero-export compliance and active self-consumption optimisation in a single unit.

AFCI & Type II SPD Safety

Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) protection is available as a factory option, detecting dangerous DC arc events in PV string wiring before they can cause a fire. Type II Surge Protective Devices are fitted on the DC side as standard, and AC-side Type II SPD is available as an option. Rapid Shutdown (RSD) readiness is built in, meeting requirements for firefighter-safe systems in regions where RSD is mandated.

Global MPP Scan & I-V Curve Diagnosis

The inverter runs a built-in global MPP scan to avoid locking onto a local rather than global power maximum during partial shading — a common yield-reduction issue with simpler MPPT algorithms. The I-V curve diagnosis feature lets installers and O&M teams assess string health remotely through SolaX Cloud, identifying degraded or mismatched panels without a site visit.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is the X1-BOOST G4 approved for G98 / G99 grid connection in the UK?
Yes. The X1-BOOST G4 is certified to both G98 and G99, as well as TOR and PPDS. Under G98/G99 the 3.6 kW model's max. apparent power is limited to 3,680 VA and max. current to 16 A (compared to 4,048 VA / 17.6 A in other markets). Systems up to 3.68 kW on a single-phase connection can typically be notified under G98 without a formal DNO application. Systems above 3.68 kW or with special configurations require G99 application. Always confirm with your DNO before commissioning.
What does 200% PV oversizing mean in practice?
It means you can connect a PV array with a peak power up to twice the inverter's rated AC output. For example, a 5 kW X1-BOOST G4 can accept up to 10,000 Wp of panels. In UK conditions the array rarely produces its STC peak, so a larger array charges the system earlier in the morning and later in the afternoon, increasing total daily yield — without the inverter ever being overloaded, because it clips output at its rated limit. This is standard practice for maximising annual generation in cloudy or low-irradiance climates.
Does it support export limiting and zero-export operation?
Yes. Built-in export control is a standard feature on all X1-BOOST G4 models. When paired with the CT sensor (optional accessory, purchased separately) or a compatible smart meter, the inverter monitors real-time grid import/export and throttles its own output to stay within the configured limit — including zero export. This makes the X1-BOOST G4 suitable for installations where the DNO has imposed a generation limit or where the customer prefers not to export at all.
Can I run multiple X1-BOOST G4 inverters on one single-phase property?
Yes. The X1-BOOST G4 supports a Master/Slave parallel configuration via Modbus RS485 for up to five units — delivering up to 30 kW aggregate output from five 6 kW inverters on a single-phase connection (subject to DNO approval). No external Energy Management System is required; the Master inverter coordinates the Slave units automatically. This approach is ideal for very large residential roofs or where battery storage is to be added later via the SolaX X1-HYBRID G4 range alongside string inverters.
What monitoring options are available and is there a subscription fee?
The inverter has a single DONGLE port compatible with SolaX's Pocket Wi-Fi, LAN, and 4G dongles (purchased separately). Once connected, data uploads to SolaX Cloud where it can be viewed via the SolaX app (iOS & Android) or web portal. The optional new-generation Wi-Fi dongle supports 10-second data refresh intervals for near-real-time monitoring. An RS485 port enables Modbus integration with third-party home energy management systems. SolaX Cloud monitoring carries no ongoing subscription fee for residential users.
What safety precautions apply during installation and maintenance?
Installation is for qualified electricians only. Key safety points from the SolaX user manual: always keep the DC switch in the OFF position during wiring; after disconnecting both AC and DC supplies, wait at least 5 minutes before opening the enclosure or touching internal terminals, as capacitors retain hazardous voltage during this period; PV cable positive and negative conductors must be bundled and kept short to avoid inductive loops; surge/spark-gap devices must not be used on the DC side. The inverter incorporates certified internal Residual Current Monitoring (RCM) with a 30 mA electrocution protection threshold and a 300 mA slow-rising-current threshold per IEC 62109-2.
