Hive V4 Wireless Heating and Hot Water Smart Thermostat with Hub 852112
The Hive V4 Wireless Heating & Hot Water Smart Thermostat (MPN 852112) is Hive's full-size smart thermostat for conventional (heat-only) boiler systems with a separate hot water cylinder. Supplied with the Nano 3 Hub, it lets you schedule and boost both central heating and domestic hot water independently from the Hive app on iOS or Android, or by voice via Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit.
The large physical dial lets any household member adjust the heating temperature immediately without the app. Dedicated Heating Boost and Hot Water Boost buttons on the thermostat face turn either circuit on for up to 6 hours with a single press. Ready By self-learning preheat, geolocation alerts, Holiday Mode, Heating History and optional Hive Plus budget tracking all come included. The 852112 controls both heating and hot water on systems with a cylinder — for combi boilers (no cylinder), choose the 852108.
Schedule and boost heating and hot water completely independently — different on/off times, different boost durations, all from one thermostat or the Hive app. No need for a separate programmer on the wall.
The large rotary dial lets any household member adjust the heating setpoint immediately. Dedicated Boost buttons for heating and hot water sit below the screen for one-touch activation.
The Ready By function learns how long your home takes to reach the target temperature and fires the boiler early so you're warm when each schedule block begins — and adjusts automatically with the seasons.
Build a personalised weekly schedule via the touchscreen or Hive app. One-tap Boost overrides the schedule and runs heating or hot water for up to 6 hours — then automatically returns to programme.
The Hive app detects when your phone leaves home and sends a push notification if the heating is still on — one tap to turn it off from wherever you are.
Holiday Mode suspends heating (and hot water) for a defined period and restores the schedule automatically on your return date. Frost protection fires the boiler if the temperature drops below 7 °C regardless of any other setting.
View daily and weekly heating usage graphs in the app — see how long the boiler has been running, how quickly the home heats up and cools down, and spot opportunities to save energy.
Works natively with Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit for hands-free temperature adjustments and status checks. Siri Shortcuts are also supported.

What is a conventional / system boiler and is my system compatible?
A conventional or heat-only boiler heats water that is stored in a separate hot water cylinder (often in an airing cupboard) and a header tank in the loft. This is different from a combi boiler, which heats hot water on demand with no cylinder. If you have a separate hot water cylinder heated by your boiler, you have a conventional system and need the heating-and-hot-water variant of the Hive thermostat. If you have a combi, choose the combi/heating-only variant.
Can I schedule hot water and heating at different times?
Yes — the 852112 controls both channels independently. The Hive app lets you set completely separate on/off schedules for heating and hot water, and the thermostat's Boost buttons fire either circuit for up to 6 hours without disrupting the other's programme.
What does the Nano 3 Hub do?
The Nano 3 Hub (included in the box) bridges the Zigbee wireless signal between the thermostat/receiver and your home Wi-Fi router. It plugs into a spare Ethernet port on your router and powers from a USB adapter (both supplied). This lets the Hive cloud and app communicate with your thermostat from anywhere.
What batteries does it take?
The thermostat runs on 4 × AAA alkaline batteries — all included in the box. Replace all four at the same time using alkaline cells only. Battery life varies with usage but is typically 12–18 months. The receiver (and hub, where supplied) runs on mains power.
Does it work on gravity-fed or part-pumped systems?
Yes — the Hive receiver has a gravity-fed mode. If your hot water is gravity-fed (no pump), your installer switches the receiver into this mode during commissioning, which reconfigures the relay outputs to match the valve/pump arrangement. See the Hive Mini Installation Guide or consult hivehome.com/thermostat-guide for the switching procedure.
