Hive Smart TRV 15mm Angled Thermostatic Radiator Valve Head and Body UK7004561

Hive Smart TRV 15mm Angled Thermostatic Radiator Valve Head and Body UK7004561

The Hive Smart Thermostatic Radiator Valve (UK7004561) gives you room-by-room heating control directly from the Hive app on your smartphone or tablet — set individual temperatures and schedules for every radiator in the house, stop heating rooms you are not using, and cut energy bills without sacrificing comfort. Supplied as a complete head and body set: the smart TRV head with digital display, a 15mm angled brass valve body, M30 and Danfoss RA adaptors, and 2× AA batteries. Connects to the Hive ecosystem via Zigbee (2.4GHz) — requires a Hive Hub or Hub 360 (Hub 1 is not supported). Works with or without Hive Active Heating, and is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, iOS and Android. Features open window detection, frost protection, holiday mode, programmable per-room schedules, and manual override. Maximum working pressure 10 bar; temperature range 0–40°C. 1-year manufacturer's guarantee.

⚠ Hub Requirement — Hub 1 Not Compatible
The Hive Smart TRV requires a Hive Hub (current generation) or Hive Hub 360. The original Hive Hub 1 does not support Hive Radiator Valves and cannot be used. If you currently have Hub 1, you will need to upgrade your hub before adding these valves. Check the base of your hub — Hub 1 has a round body; Hub 360 is cylindrical with a slanted top; the current Hub is rectangular.
ℹ With or Without Hive Active Heating — What's the Difference?
Without Hive Active Heating: The TRVs can control flow to individual radiators and adjust temperature room by room — but only while your boiler is already running. They cannot override your main thermostat setting or instruct the boiler to fire.

With Hive Active Heating (requires a Hive thermostat and receiver): TRVs can communicate with the thermostat to demand heat when a room needs it, automatically overriding the schedule to bring the boiler on. This unlocks the full energy-saving potential of room-by-room control.

Features & Benefits
✔ Room-by-Room Temperature Control
Each Hive Smart TRV acts as an independent heating zone for its radiator — you set a target temperature in degrees Celsius and the valve opens or closes the flow of hot water to maintain it. No more heating empty rooms: set the spare bedroom to frost protect and the living room to 21°C at 6pm on a schedule that matches how you actually use your home. The digital display on the head shows the current room temperature and set point at a glance, without needing to open the app.
✔ Per-Room Schedules via the Hive App
The Hive app lets you create a fully independent heating schedule for each TRV — not just a single zone programme applied to the whole house. A bedroom can be set to warm up at 6:30am and cool down again by 8am; the kitchen at different times to the lounge; the home office only on weekdays. Schedules are set in half-hour increments and can be adjusted any time from anywhere with the app. Changes take effect immediately — no need to be at home.
✔ Open Window Detection — Frost & Holiday Mode
Open window detection senses a rapid drop in room temperature — indicating a window has been opened — and automatically reduces the set point to avoid heating the outside. The valve resumes normal operation once the temperature stabilises. Frost protection mode keeps the room at a minimum safe temperature (typically 7°C) to prevent pipework freezing when a room is unoccupied in cold weather. Holiday mode applies a low hold temperature across all TRVs for the duration of your absence, resuming normal schedules on your return date.
✔ Zigbee Wireless — Hive Hub or Hub 360 Required
The Hive Smart TRV uses Zigbee protocol on the 2.4GHz band to communicate with the Hive Hub. Zigbee is a mesh networking protocol — each TRV in your home also acts as a relay for other TRVs, extending the network range naturally as you add more valves. This makes it significantly more reliable than Wi-Fi-based smart valves in larger or multi-floor properties. Each Hive Hub supports multiple TRVs across the home. A stable internet connection is required for full cloud features, but local control is maintained if internet connectivity is temporarily lost.
✔ Alexa, Google Home & Manual Override
Control via voice with Amazon Alexa or Google Home: say "Alexa, set the bedroom to 20 degrees" or "Hey Google, what is the bedroom temperature?" without unlocking your phone. The manual override on the head itself lets anyone in the room adjust the temperature by pressing the physical buttons — essential for guests or family members who do not use the app. Manual adjustments respect the next scheduled change, reverting automatically to the programme without requiring a phone to undo the override.
✔ Complete Head & Body Set — Self-Install
This pack includes everything needed for a complete installation: the smart TRV head, 15mm angled brass valve body, M30 and Danfoss RA adaptors, 2× AA batteries, adaptor guide and user guide. If your radiators already have TRV bodies fitted, you only need the head (sold separately as UK7004240). If you are replacing a conventional TRV head and body from scratch, this is the complete set. Installation is self-install friendly if you are replacing an existing TRV body — isolate the radiator, drain, swap the valve, screw on the head, and pair via the app. A plumber should fit the valve body if replacing a lockshield or fitting to a radiator with no existing TRV.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Hive Active Heating to use these TRVs?
No — the Hive Smart TRVs work without Hive Active Heating, but with reduced functionality. Without it, the TRVs can open and close individual radiators and maintain a set temperature room by room — but only while your boiler is already running from your existing thermostat. They cannot override your main thermostat or instruct the boiler to fire on their own. If you want the TRVs to be able to turn the boiler on when a room needs heat, you need the full Hive Active Heating system (a Hive thermostat and receiver), which allows the TRVs to communicate demand to the boiler. For most installations, adding Hive Active Heating alongside TRVs gives the greatest energy saving.
Can I install this myself without a plumber?
If your radiators already have thermostatic radiator valve bodies fitted (i.e. there is already a TRV head on the radiator), the Hive head can be a straightforward self-install — unscrew the existing head and replace it with the Hive head using the correct adaptor. No draining, no plumbing tools required. The Hive app guides you through adaptor selection and pairing step by step. If you need to replace the valve body at the same time (for example, you currently have a lockshield, or the existing body is a different connection style), you will need to drain down the radiator and fit the new body — this is standard plumbing work, but most homeowners will want a plumber for it. If in doubt, ask a plumber to fit the valve body and then install the head yourself.
Why does the valve take 24 hours to calibrate after installation?
On first installation, the Hive TRV needs to learn the characteristics of your specific radiator — how quickly it heats up, how much the valve needs to open or close to achieve a given temperature change, and where the mechanical stops of the valve body are. This calibration process takes up to 24 hours and requires your heating to be on during this period so the valve can cycle through its range with hot water flowing. During calibration the radiator may heat up more slowly than usual or behave unpredictably — this is normal. After calibration completes (visible in the app), the valve will regulate temperature accurately.
Do I need one TRV per radiator, or just some radiators?
You do not need to fit a Hive TRV on every radiator to benefit from the system — you can start with the rooms where individual control matters most, such as bedrooms, a home office, or a rarely-used spare room. Radiators without a Hive TRV continue to work as normal, controlled by your main thermostat and the physical dial on the valve. However, for the best energy savings, fitting TRVs in all rooms allows the system to actively prevent heating unoccupied spaces. One important note: it is good practice to leave at least one radiator on the system without a TRV (or with its TRV fully open) as a bypass, to prevent the circulating pump working against closed valves if all rooms reach their target temperature simultaneously.
How long do the batteries last, and what type do I need?
The Hive Smart TRV is powered by 2× AA batteries (supplied in the box). Battery life depends on usage — how frequently the valve opens and closes, how often the display is activated, and ambient temperature — but is typically 12–18 months of normal use. The app will notify you when the battery level is low, giving you time to replace them before the valve loses communication. Standard alkaline AA batteries are used; rechargeable NiMH AA batteries will also work but may give a slightly shorter run time due to their lower nominal voltage (1.2V vs 1.5V for alkaline). Batteries can be replaced without removing the valve head from the radiator.
Is this the same as the head-only version, and which do I need?
Hive sells two versions: this head and body pack (UK7004561), and a head-only pack (UK7004240). The head-only pack is for radiators that already have a compatible thermostatic radiator valve body fitted — you simply remove the existing TRV head and replace it with the Hive head using the included adaptors (M30 or Danfoss RA). The head and body pack (this product) is for installations where you are fitting a new TRV from scratch, replacing a lockshield, or where the existing valve body is incompatible. If you are unsure whether your existing valve body is compatible, the Hive adaptor guide (included in both packs) covers the most common valve body types. M30 and Danfoss RA are the two most common UK fittings and both adaptors are included.
