Key Features
Individual Cell Monitoring — Voltages and Temperatures via VictronConnect
Every cell in the battery is individually monitored for voltage and temperature. This data is transmitted via the BMS interface cable to the Lynx Smart BMS NG, which calculates state of charge (SoC), raises pre-alarms when any cell approaches its low-voltage threshold (3.0 V), and disconnects loads if a cell drops below 2.8 V or a charger if a cell exceeds 3.6 V. All this data is viewable in real-time in the VictronConnect app (via Bluetooth on the BMS), on a GX device screen, and remotely on the Victron VRM portal. This level of granularity was not available in the previous Lithium Smart generation.

300 A Continuous / 600 A Peak Discharge — 1 mΩ Internal Resistance
At 300 Ah and 1C continuous discharge, this battery can sustain 3,840 W of continuous DC output at 12.8 V — enough to run a 3 kW inverter/charger at full load. The 600 A / 10 s pulse rating handles the heavy inrush currents from large inverters and motor starts without voltage sag or BMS intervention. The 1 mΩ internal resistance keeps resistive losses minimal and ensures stable voltage under load, which is important for sensitive electronics and inverters that react to voltage drop.
300A continuous (1C)600A pulse / 10s (2C)1mΩ internal resistance
IP65 Protection — Dust-Tight and Water-Jet Resistant
IP65 means the battery is completely sealed against dust (the ‘6’ digit) and protected against low-pressure water jets from any direction (the ‘5’ digit). The previous Lithium Smart series was rated IP24, which offered protection against water droplets and splashing only from a limited angle. The IP65 upgrade makes the NG series suitable for more demanding environments such as engine rooms, boat bilge areas, outdoor enclosures, and vehicles where moisture and dust ingress are concerns.
IP65 (dust-tight + water-jet)Improved from IP24
Integrated Shunt — Accurate SoC Without External Monitor
The battery contains an internal precision shunt that measures current flowing in and out with high accuracy. The BMS uses this shunt data — combined with cell voltages and temperature — to calculate the state of charge (SoC) and state of health (SoH) continuously. This eliminates the need for an external battery monitor (such as a BMV) to track SoC accurately, reducing system cost and wiring complexity. If an external monitor is used, it must be powered from the BMS load terminal (not directly from the battery) to ensure consistent SoC calculation.

Scalable to 192 kWh — Up to 50 Batteries per BMS
Up to 50 NG batteries can be connected per Lynx Smart BMS NG, providing a maximum bank capacity of 192 kWh on a 12 V system. Batteries can be connected in parallel (to increase capacity at 12 V), in series (two batteries for 25.6 V systems), or in series/parallel combinations for 24 V or 48 V banks. For even larger systems, up to 5 Lynx Smart BMS NG units can be paralleled, unlocking total bank sizes up to 384 kWh on 24 V systems. The BMS automatically detects the system voltage and battery count on startup.

Automatic Firmware Updates via BMS — Always Current
Battery firmware is updated automatically by the Lynx Smart BMS NG whenever a new version is released by Victron. No manual intervention is required. Updates can be delivered via the VictronConnect app over Bluetooth, or — when a GX device with internet is connected — directly through the VRM portal over-the-air. When additional batteries are added to a system at a later date, their firmware is automatically updated to match the system firmware version. This ensures all cells in a bank are always running the same software version.
Automatic OTA updatesVia VictronConnect or VRMNew batteries auto-updated
Low Self-Discharge — ≤3 %/Month for Long Storage
A maximum self-discharge rate of 3 % per month at 25°C means the battery retains over 97 % of its charge after 30 days of storage. This is particularly important for seasonal applications: marine systems stored over winter, off-grid cabins unused for extended periods, or backup power systems that may sit idle for months. Victron recommends charging to 40 – 60 % for long-term storage and checking the open-circuit voltage monthly, charging immediately if it drops below 3.0 V per cell.
≤3%/month self-dischargeStorage: −45 to +70°CIdeal for seasonal use
Repairable Design — Cover Removable with Screws
Unlike most lithium batteries that are fully sealed and must be replaced as a unit when serviced, the Victron NG series has a removable cover secured with screws, allowing the internal components to be accessed and repaired by Victron-authorised service centres. This extends the product’s useful service life and reduces total cost of ownership, as cell replacement or BMS interface repair can be performed without replacing the entire battery module.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Lynx Smart BMS NG or can I use my existing Victron BMS?
A Lynx Smart BMS NG 500A or 1000A is mandatory for every NG battery bank. Previous generation Lynx Smart BMS units (non-NG) are not compatible. The NG BMS uses a different interface standard (M8 circular connector with high-speed digital communication) compared to older Victron BMS models. If you already have a Lithium Smart battery system with a non-NG BMS, you cannot add NG batteries to that bank. NG and non-NG batteries must remain in completely separate banks.
Can I connect this battery in series to make a 24V system?
Yes. Two 12.8 V NG batteries connected in series create a nominal 25.6 V (24 V system) bank. The Lynx Smart BMS NG manages series connections automatically — it detects the system voltage at startup. For series connections, follow Victron’s installation guide carefully: series battery pairs should be balanced before connection, and the BMS cable chain must be connected in the correct order. The 12.8 V/300 Ah model also has a 25.6 V/300 Ah equivalent (separate SKU) if a single-module 24 V solution is preferred.
What is the minimum ambient temperature for charging?
Charging can only take place at +5°C or above. Below +5°C, the BMS will halt charging to protect the LiFePO₄ cells from lithium plating, which can occur when charging at low temperatures and permanently damages cell capacity. Discharge, however, is possible down to −20°C, though capacity is significantly reduced (160 Ah vs 300 Ah at −20°C vs 25°C). For installations in cold climates, consider a battery heater or insulated enclosure if winter charging is required.
Can I add more NG batteries to an existing system later?
Yes, the NG system is designed for expansion. When a new battery is added to the bank, its firmware is automatically updated by the BMS to match the system firmware. For parallel additions within the same bank, ensure the new battery's state of charge is within a reasonable range of the existing batteries before connecting — wait 15 minutes after connection before running loads to allow equalisation. The BMS automatically detects the new battery and updates its battery count. For systems requiring more than 50 batteries, up to 5 Lynx Smart BMS NG units can be paralleled with an MBMS controller.
How does the IP65 rating compare to what I need for a marine installation?
IP65 means the battery is completely protected against dust and can withstand water jets from any direction at low pressure. For most marine installations — engine rooms, under-berth storage, anchor lockers — IP65 is sufficient for the conditions encountered. It is not rated for submersion (IP67/68), so the battery should not be installed in bilge areas that are regularly flooded. Leave at least 2 cm of clearance around the battery for ventilation, as the battery generates heat during charge and discharge.
What VictronConnect features are available for this battery?
When a GX device (Cerbo GX, CCGX, etc.) with a Lynx Smart BMS NG is connected, the following are visible in VictronConnect and on the GX device: individual cell voltages, individual cell temperatures, battery current, overall SoC, state of health (SoH), charge/discharge power, battery voltage, and alarm status for each cell. All data is also available remotely on the VRM portal for monitoring from any internet-connected device. Pre-alarms appear in VictronConnect before any cell reaches its protection threshold, giving time to act before the BMS disconnects loads or chargers.

Cycle Life at Different Depths of Discharge

Usable life in cycles depends on how deeply the battery is discharged each cycle. Shallower cycling significantly extends total service life.

DoD per cycle Usable capacity Guaranteed cycles Equivalent years (1 cycle/day)
50 % DoD 1,920 Wh per cycle 5,000 cycles ~13.7 years
70 % DoD 2,688 Wh per cycle 3,000 cycles ~8.2 years
80 % DoD 3,072 Wh per cycle 2,500 cycles ~6.8 years
100 % DoD 3,840 Wh per cycle <1 % capacity loss per 100 cycles

Cycles at 80 % DoD guarantee ≥80 % remaining capacity. Year estimates based on one full cycle per day. Capacity loss is <1 % per 100 cycles at 25°C.
