The ThermRite PRO 20mm Insulation Panel is the standard-depth model in the ThermRite PRO dual-purpose range — a high-performance EPS 400 kPa insulation panel board with a 200-micron aluminium heat-reflective foil surface, pre-routed for 16mm UFH pipe at 150mm centres. Insulation panel providing 4mm more insulation depth than the 16mm PRO, it is the most popular choice for retrofit overlay installations where a balance of low build-up and thermal performance is needed. Its dual-purpose design accepts any floor finish — tile, vinyl, carpet, bonded wood and floating interlocking wood or laminate — from a single panel type, making it ideal for open-plan extensions where the finish may differ room to room.

Installation Overview

For Floating Wood or Laminate Floors

Lay panels directly on the existing screed or floor deck without fixing.
Press 16mm pipe into the pre-routed grooves.
Lay interlocking T&G or click-lock floor boards at 90° to the pipe direction.

For Tile, Vinyl, Bonded Wood or Carpet

Check subfloor flatness (SR2 minimum — +/−5mm over 2m).
Bond panels to screed or 18mm+ plywood with EPS contact spray adhesive or flexible tile adhesive.
Press 16mm pipe into grooves.
Apply 5mm (tile) or 10mm (vinyl/carpet) self-levelling compound.
Apply chosen floor finish as normal.

ℹ Note: Leave a 5–10mm expansion gap around all fixed edges before installing the floor finish. Allow adhesive and levelling compound to fully cure before tiling or laying vinyl.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the 16mm and 20mm ThermRite PRO?

Both panels are identical in core (EPS 400 kPa), surface (200µm foil), pipe diameter (16mm) and pipe centres (150mm). The 20mm PRO provides 4mm more insulation depth — marginally better thermal resistance — while the 16mm PRO is chosen when the absolute minimum floor build-up is critical (e.g. very low door thresholds or existing floor levels).

Can I tile directly on the 20mm PRO panel surface?

For tiled finishes, a 5mm self-levelling compound must be applied over the installed panels and pipe before tiling. The foil surface is not designed for direct tile adhesion. If you want to tile directly without a screed layer, see the ProTile20 cementitious XPS panel.

Does this panel need to be fixed to the subfloor?

It depends on the floor finish. For floating wood/laminate: no fixing needed — simply lay and install pipe. For tile, vinyl, bonded wood or carpet: bond panels to the subfloor with EPS contact spray adhesive or flexible tile adhesive before installing pipe.

Is the 20mm PRO suitable for heat pump systems?

Yes. The 150mm pipe centres and 16mm multilayer pipe combination delivers a heat output suitable for heat pump flow temperatures in standard well-insulated rooms. For rooms with higher heat loss or heat pump systems requiring lower flow temperatures, consult a UFH designer about whether closer pipe centres or a different system configuration is needed.

What is included with the panel?

Panels are sold individually (0.72 m² each) or in quantities. Each panel includes the EPS core with foil laminate — pipe, adhesive and screed are purchased separately. ThermRite EPS contact spray adhesive and 16mm multilayer pipe are available in this range.
