Triton Avena Instant Electric Shower – White/Chrome | 8.5kW or 9.5kW | Swivel-Fit
Triton Showers | MPN: SPAVENA8 (8.5kW) / SPAVENA9 (9.5kW) | Finish: White / Chrome
The Triton Avena is an instant electric shower that connects directly to the mains cold water supply and heats water on demand — delivering immediate, continuous hot water independently of your boiler, hot water cylinder or any other part of the heating system. It is available in two power ratings: 8.5kW (SPAVENA8) and 9.5kW (SPAVENA9). Both share the same compact body, the same Swivel-Fit inlet, and the same white/chrome shower kit — the only difference is the output power and the electrical supply requirements.
With clean contemporary styling, an A energy rating and BEAB/BSI Kitemark approval, the Avena is one of the UK's most trusted value electric showers — equally well suited to new bathroom installations and direct replacement of an existing shower.
Which power rating should I choose?
| 8.5kW – SPAVENA8 | 9.5kW – SPAVENA9 | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Direct replacement on an existing 8.5kW circuit — no electrical upgrade needed | New installations, full rewires, or existing 9.5kW+ circuits — best all-year performance |
| Typical cable / MCB | 6mm² / 40A MCB | 10mm² / 45–50A MCB |
| Winter performance | Good | Better — more thermal headroom when mains water is coldest |
| Current draw | ~35A | ~40A |
| Body & kit | Identical — 308 × 208 × 108mm, same shower kit, same connections | |
If you're unsure what your existing circuit is rated for, check the MCB in your consumer unit labelled for the shower — or ask your electrician before ordering.
Key Features
Instant Electric Heating — No Boiler or Cylinder Needed
The Avena draws cold water straight from the mains and heats it on demand as it passes through the unit. Hot water is available the moment you turn the dial and continues as long as you need it — completely independent of the boiler, hot water cylinder or any other draw-off point in the home. It keeps working even when the boiler is off, being serviced, or has broken down.
Swivel-Fit™ — 180° Reversible Water Inlet
Triton's Swivel-Fit allows the water inlet to be rotated 180° before fixing, accepting the incoming supply from either the left or the right-hand side without any modification to the unit. On retrofit jobs where the existing pipework direction is fixed, this eliminates the need to reroute pipework just to match the shower's inlet position.
Left & Right Cable Entry Points
The Avena accepts mains cable entry from both the left and right sides of the unit. Combined with Swivel-Fit, both the plumber and electrician can use the most practical entry route independently — an important feature that keeps retrofit installations clean and minimises unnecessary surface wiring or chasing.
Separate Power and Temperature Controls
Two independent dials handle power and temperature separately. Users can set their preferred temperature once and then simply turn the power on and off without losing that setting. This is both more intuitive and more energy-efficient than a combined single-dial control.
Stabilised Temperature Control
Stabilised temperature technology reduces variation in water temperature caused by fluctuations in mains pressure or incoming water temperature throughout the shower. The result is a more consistent, comfortable experience compared to non-stabilised electric showers.
A Energy Rating
The Avena holds an A energy efficiency rating. As an on-demand system, it heats only the water actually being used and has no standby losses — making it inherently efficient versus stored hot water systems regardless of the kW rating selected.
White/Chrome Shower Kit Included
Both variants come with a complete matching shower kit: riser rail, adjustable head holder, 70mm rub-clean single spray shower head and a 1.25m Duraflow anti-twist hose — all in white and chrome. Nothing additional is needed to complete the installation.
Rub-Clean Shower Head
The 70mm shower head features rub-clean nozzles that resist limescale build-up. In hard-water areas, nozzles can simply be rubbed to dislodge deposits, maintaining consistent flow performance without chemical descalers.
BEAB Approved, CE Marked & BSI Kitemarked
Both variants hold BEAB (British Electrotechnical Approvals Board) approval for electrical safety in bathroom environments, CE marking and BSI Kitemark certification — independent verification of compliance with UK and European safety and quality standards for electric showers.
2-Year Parts & Labour Guarantee
Covered by Triton's 2-year parts and labour guarantee from date of purchase.

Installation Notes
The Avena connects to a 15mm mains cold water supply using a standard compression fitting — push-fit connectors are not recommended for electric shower installations. A dedicated, permanently connected double-pole circuit from the consumer unit is required, wired in accordance with BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations). The circuit must be sized to match the selected variant:
- 8.5kW (SPAVENA8): typically 6mm² cable, 40A MCB — confirm with your electrician based on cable run length and installation method.
- 9.5kW (SPAVENA9): typically 10mm² cable, 45–50A MCB — confirm with your electrician. If upgrading from an existing 8.5kW supply, the cable and MCB will likely need upgrading.
Both variants require a minimum static pressure of 1 bar / 0.4 bar operating pressure and are suitable for mains cold water supply only — not for low-pressure gravity-fed cistern systems unless the cistern provides at least 10m head.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this shower need a hot water supply or boiler connection?
No. The Avena heats cold mains water on demand as it flows through the unit. It is completely independent of your boiler, cylinder or any other hot water source — and continues working even if the boiler is off or broken down.
How do I know which power rating to choose?
Check the MCB in your consumer unit that is labelled for your shower circuit. If it is a 40A breaker, your existing supply is rated for the 8.5kW (SPAVENA8) and you can replace it directly. If it is 45A or higher, or if you are installing from scratch with new wiring, choose the 9.5kW (SPAVENA9) for the best all-year performance. If you're unsure, ask your electrician before ordering.
What water pressure do I need?
A minimum static pressure of 1 bar is required (0.4 bar minimum operating pressure). Most UK mains-fed properties exceed this comfortably. The unit handles up to 10 bar static / 5 bar operating pressure. If in doubt, check with a pressure gauge at the nearest cold tap.
Will the Avena fit in place of my existing electric shower?
In most cases, yes. Both variants share the same 308 × 208 × 108mm footprint, and the Swivel-Fit inlet with dual cable entry means the Avena suits most existing pipe and cable configurations without rerouting. The main consideration is matching the kW rating to your existing circuit — or planning a supply upgrade if you are choosing a higher-rated variant.
Does flow rate change in winter?
Yes, slightly. Because the element must work harder to heat colder incoming mains water in winter, flow rate at a given temperature setting will be marginally lower than in summer. This is normal for all instant electric showers. The 9.5kW variant has more thermal headroom, so the seasonal variation is less noticeable.
Does this shower work with a gravity-fed (cistern) system?
Only if the cistern is high enough to provide at least 1 bar static pressure — approximately 10 metres of head. Most domestic gravity-fed systems fall below this threshold. For low-pressure installations, a pumped electric shower is the more appropriate solution.
