ℹ Indirect (boiler-fed) models
Hurricane Indirect cylinders are heated primarily by a gas, oil, or heat-pump boiler via the internal 22 mm coil. A single 3 kW backup immersion heater is factory-fitted for off-peak or emergency use. Compatible with both sealed system and open-vented primary circuits. If you need electric-only heating, see the Hurricane Direct range.
ℹ Secondary return connection
The 22 mm secondary return connection is not supplied as standard on 90–170 L models. It is included as standard on 200–300 L models. If a secondary return circuit is required on a smaller model, please contact us for options.
KEY FEATURES
Duplex Stainless Steel — 316L Fittings & Coil

The Hurricane Indirect is fabricated from Duplex stainless steel with all 22 mm fittings and the internal primary heating coil in 316L grade stainless steel — providing excellent corrosion resistance against aggressive water conditions. The inner container is backed by Telford's lifetime manufacturing warranty.

Internal Boiler Coil — Fast Recovery

The 22 mm primary heating coil transfers heat from your boiler circuit to the stored water, achieving full cylinder heat-up from 10 °C to 60 °C in 26–40 minutes depending on size — and 70% draw-off recovery in 18–29 minutes. The coil is compatible with both sealed-system and open-vented boiler configurations.

Factory-Fitted 3 kW Backup Immersion

A single 3 kW immersion heater is factory-fitted as standard on all models, providing electric backup during boiler servicing or off-peak top-up charging. It is equipped with an independent thermostat and a manual-reset thermal cut-out for safety compliance.

External Expansion Vessel Supplied

Every Hurricane Indirect includes an external expansion vessel with factory-fitted wall mounting bracket — sized to the cylinder capacity. This accommodates DHW thermal expansion without the need for internal expansion systems, supporting flexible siting within the primary circuit design.

Full Unvented Kit Supplied

Supplied complete with: tundish · inlet control group · two-port valve · dual-probe thermostat · factory-fitted 7 bar / 90 °C T&P relief valve · expansion vessel with bracket. All components meet relevant BS EN standards. WRAS approved across the range, and G3 Building Regulations compliant.

Mains Pressure — Sealed or Open-Vented Primary

The Hurricane Indirect operates at 3 bar and accepts incoming supply pressures up to 12 bar, delivering powerful mains-pressure hot water to multiple outlets simultaneously — no loft tanks or shower pumps required. The primary coil circuit is suitable for both sealed system and open-vented boiler configurations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is the Hurricane Indirect suitable for use with a heat pump?
The Hurricane Indirect can be used with a heat pump connected to the primary coil, however its standard 22 mm coil is rated for conventional boiler flow temperatures (typically 65–80 °C). Heat pumps operate at lower flow temperatures (35–55 °C) and may require higher flow rates than the standard coil supports for efficient energy transfer. For dedicated heat pump applications, Telford's Tempest Heat Pump cylinder range — with larger coil surface areas optimised for low-temperature primary circuits — is generally the more appropriate choice. Contact us for application advice.
Can the Hurricane Indirect be used with an open-vented boiler?
Yes — the Hurricane Indirect is compatible with both sealed system and open-vented primary boiler circuits. The DHW side of the cylinder is always unvented (mains pressure), regardless of whether the primary heating circuit is sealed or open-vented. Your installer will confirm the correct pipework configuration for your specific boiler type.
Why does the 200 L model have a shorter height than the 170 L?
The 90–170 L models use a 510 mm diameter vessel; the 200–300 L models step up to a 580 mm diameter. The wider body accommodates more volume at a reduced height, which is why the 200 L (1150 mm, 580 mm Ø) is shorter than the 170 L (1200 mm, 510 mm Ø). This wider-body design makes larger models more practical in standard airing cupboard heights.
Is a secondary return connection included on all models?
No — the 22 mm secondary return connection is supplied as standard only on 200, 250, and 300 L models. The 90, 125, 150, and 170 L models do not include this as standard. If you need a secondary return on a smaller Hurricane Indirect, please contact us before ordering to discuss options.
What warranty does the Hurricane Indirect carry?
The inner stainless steel container carries a lifetime manufacturing warranty against faulty manufacture or materials, provided: the cylinder is installed by a G3 competent person; used solely for mains public supply water; not modified or tampered with; and maintained in accordance with the installation instructions. A completed Benchmark Checklist and evidence of purchase are required for claims. All other components (immersion heater, valves, thermostat, expansion vessel, two-port valve) carry a 2-year warranty. All Telford cylinders are WRAS approved.
