The WiFi+LAN is the recommended choice for the majority of UK installations. Use WiFi for straightforward setups where the router is within 50 m; switch to the Ethernet connection if signal is unreliable (e.g. inverter in a garage, outbuilding or loft with thick walls between it and the router). The 4G variant is explicitly not supported by SolaX in the UK.

What is the difference between the Pocket WiFi+LAN and the Pocket WiFi V3.0-P?

The Pocket WiFi+LAN (this product) supports both wireless WiFi and wired Ethernet. The Pocket WiFi V3.0-P supports WiFi only, but comes with an external antenna for improved range. The WiFi+LAN is the better default choice because it covers both scenarios: use WiFi for a quick setup, or run an Ethernet cable later if the WiFi signal proves unreliable. The WiFi V3.0-P is better if you specifically need the external antenna for a long-range wireless connection and have no interest in wired fallback.

Why use Ethernet instead of WiFi?

WiFi is convenient but has real limitations for monitoring dongles. Inverters are often installed in locations that are poorly served by the home router: garages, loft spaces, utility rooms behind thick masonry walls. 2.4 GHz WiFi loses signal through walls and is susceptible to interference from neighbouring networks, microwave ovens and other 2.4 GHz devices. A 30 m CAT5e run from the router to the inverter costs under £5 in materials and gives a rock-solid connection. If the monitoring system frequently drops offline and re-connects, switching from WiFi to Ethernet almost always resolves it.

My inverter is in a garage — do I need the LAN version or will WiFi work?

It depends on the signal strength. If your router is in the house and the garage is a separate outbuilding, WiFi over 2.4 GHz through masonry walls is often very unreliable — expect frequent disconnections that result in gaps in your monitoring data. In this case, running a CAT5e or CAT6 Ethernet cable from your router to the inverter is strongly recommended. The Pocket WiFi+LAN is the right choice because it supports both: you can start with WiFi, and if it proves unstable, add the Ethernet cable without replacing the dongle. If WiFi signal is strong and stable in the garage, WiFi alone will work fine.

How do I set it up after installation?
