Joule Cyclone Platinum High Gain 300L Short Indirect Unvented Cylinder – TCIMVH-0300NFC

The Joule Cyclone Platinum TCIMVH-0300NFC is a 300-litre high gain indirect unvented hot water cylinder in the compact Short (600) format — 1600mm tall × 600mm diameter. It is purpose-built for air source heat pump systems, featuring Joule's high-recovery smooth stainless tube primary coil rated at 110 kW — one of the highest coil ratings in its class, enabling rapid heat transfer from low-temperature heat pump circuits even at flow temperatures of 35–55°C.

The cylinder body is manufactured from high-grade Duplex stainless steel — selected for its strength and resistance to both stress and crevice corrosion — with 50mm CFC-free polyurethane insulation achieving ErP Class C and a standing heat loss of just 17W. All Joule Cyclone Platinum cylinders are independently tested and certified by KIWA to BS EN 12897:2006, confirming compliance with UK Building Regulations, Water Regulations, and ErP Legislation.

MPN: TCIMVH-0300NFC 300L High Gain Indirect Heat Pump Ready 110kW Primary Coil KIWA Certified ErP Class C Duplex Stainless Steel
Why High Gain for heat pumps? Standard indirect cylinders use corrugated coils rated at 20–27 kW — designed for high-temperature boiler circuits where fast heat transfer from a small coil area is possible. Heat pumps deliver water at 35–55°C at lower flow rates. A high-gain smooth tube coil with a much larger surface area (rated at 110 kW on this model) compensates for the lower temperature differential, recovering heat efficiently and keeping reheat times short — just 17 minutes on this cylinder.
Short (600) vs Standard (540) format: The Short format is 1600mm tall × 600mm diameter — wider and shorter than the Standard 540mm diameter models (which are typically 2040mm tall for 300L). The Short format is ideal where ceiling height is limited (e.g. airing cupboards, under-stairs installations, utility rooms) while the larger diameter maintains full 300L capacity. If height is not a constraint, the TCIMVH-0300LFC Tall (540) version is also available.

Key Features

110 kW smooth tube high-gain coil

Joule's proprietary smooth stainless tube coil technology delivers the highest heat transfer rate of any coil type available. The 110 kW rating enables rapid heat absorption from low-temperature heat pump circuits (35–55°C), achieving a 17-minute reheat time on a 300-litre cylinder — critical for maintaining comfort without oversizing the heat pump.

Duplex stainless steel body — lifetime durability

The cylinder shell is made from high-grade Duplex stainless steel, chosen for its superior resistance to both stress corrosion and crevice corrosion compared to standard 304 or 316 stainless. The 316L grade fittings and coils are produced on separate dedicated machinery — no cross-contamination risk from other metals. Joule's zero-dirt production floor policy prevents any foreign debris from entering the metal during manufacturing.

KIWA certified — full regulatory compliance

All Joule Cyclone Platinum cylinders are tested and certified by KIWA — one of the world's top 25 TIC organisations — to BS EN 12897:2006 under ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation. KIWA independently verified compliance with all UK Building Regulations, Water Regulations, and ErP Legislation. KIWA regularly audit Joule's production facilities to ensure ongoing conformity.

Short (600) — space-efficient 1600mm height

At 1600mm tall, the Short format fits in standard-height airing cupboards and utility rooms where the 2040mm Standard/Tall models would not. The 600mm diameter maintains full 300-litre capacity. A flat base provides additional stability and allows installation directly on a level floor without a plinth. All pipework connections are at the front of the cylinder, clearly identified and accessible.

50mm PU foam insulation — 17W standing loss

The 50mm CFC-free polyurethane foam insulation jacket achieves a standing heat loss of just 17W — significantly lower than older or budget cylinders. Over a year this contributes only 2.21 kWh of standby energy consumption. The metallic grey outer casing contains no cheap plastic panels.

Works with any air source heat pump

The TCIMVH-0300NFC is compatible with any air-to-water ASHP system regardless of brand — including Vaillant, Daikin, Mitsubishi, Samsung, LG, Grant, Panasonic, Worcester Bosch, and Joule's own heat pump range. It can also be used with system boilers, solar thermal systems, or a combination of heat pump + boiler in a hybrid system.

Installation Requirements

The TCIMVH-0300NFC must be installed by a G3-qualified unvented hot water installer only. The installation, commissioning, and servicing must comply with the Joule installation manual, BS 7593, the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, and Part G of the Building Regulations. A Benchmark commissioning log must be completed and left with the homeowner on installation.

The floor must be level and capable of bearing the full weight of 372 kg when full. At least two people must lift and position the cylinder to avoid injury. Install on a level base — the flat-base design provides inherent stability without a plinth. All connection pipework is 22mm compression. Ensure a thermostatic mixing valve (TMV) is installed to prevent scalding — domestic hot water may be stored above 60°C for Legionella control.

Water chemistry: The cylinder must be supplied with water conforming to Joule's water chemistry table in the installation manual. If Total Hardness or any other parameter exceeds the specified limits — regardless of whether the supply is from mains or another source — a Joule Wellmaster cylinder (designed for hard or aggressive water) must be specified instead of the Cyclone Platinum.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this cylinder work with my heat pump brand?

Yes — the TCIMVH-0300NFC is compatible with any air-to-water heat pump regardless of manufacturer. The 110 kW smooth tube coil is designed to work efficiently with heat pump flow temperatures from 35°C upwards. The primary coil connections are standard 22mm compression fittings, compatible with all heat pump hydraulic circuits.

What is the difference between this (TCIMVH-0300NFC Short) and the TCIMVH-0300LFC (Tall)?

Both cylinders hold 300L and share the same 110 kW coil and performance specifications. The Short (NFC) is 1600mm × 600mm diameter — wider and shorter, suited to installations with limited ceiling height. The Tall/Standard (LFC) is 2040mm × 540mm — narrower and taller, suited to where floor space is tight but ceiling height is available. Choose based on the dimensions of your installation space.

Can this cylinder be used with a boiler as well as a heat pump?

Yes — the single primary coil on the TCIMVH-0300NFC can be connected to any indirect heat source: an ASHP, a system boiler, a combination of both (hybrid system), or even a solid fuel back boiler. In a hybrid system, both the heat pump and boiler share the primary coil and are controlled via the zone valve to prioritise the heat pump and use the boiler as a supplementary heat source.

What size heat pump do I need to supply this cylinder?

The coil is rated at 110 kW, but the actual heat pump capacity needed depends on the domestic hot water demand profile, the house heating load, and the operating temperatures. As a general guide for domestic use, a 5–16 kW ASHP is typical for a 300L cylinder with normal household demand. A heat pump designer or MCS-certified installer should confirm sizing based on the SAP or ASHP system design calculation.

Is the 3kW immersion heater always needed?

The immersion heater is provided for backup, boost, and anti-Legionella pasteurisation duty. During normal heat pump operation it does not need to run — the primary coil provides all the heating. It serves as an emergency backup if the heat pump is taken out of service, and can be used for a weekly 60°C+ pasteurisation cycle where required by the system design for Legionella compliance.
