Honeywell Replacement Actuator Head V4043H Series Zone Valves

The Honeywell Home V4043H Replacement Actuator Powerhead (40003916-001) is the genuine Honeywell replacement motor head assembly for V4043H and V4043C series two-port motorised zone valves — compatible with all 22mm, 28mm, and 1" BSP V4043H valve bodies. When a zone valve fails to open, fails to close, or operates noisily, the fault is almost always in the motorised powerhead rather than the valve body itself. Because the powerhead is designed to be replaced without draining the system, this part allows a faulty zone valve to be returned to full operation in minutes — no isolating the boiler, no drain-down, no cutting out pipework, no compression fittings to remake. The replacement head includes the end switch, spring return mechanism, and a 1 metre heat-resistant pre-wired cable, and attaches to the existing valve body with two screws and two locating pegs.

⚠ Always isolate the mains supply before removing or refitting the actuator assembly. The powerhead must be replaced by a qualified person. The valve body (and therefore the heating system water) remains live and pressurised during the head swap — only the electrical supply to the actuator needs to be isolated. Do not attempt to replace the head while the electrical supply is connected.
⚡ Pre-1987 valves — check before ordering
V4043 valves manufactured before 1987 did not feature the replaceable powerhead design — the motor and valve body were a single integrated unit. On these older valves, the 40003916-001 powerhead cannot be fitted directly. The Plate & Ball Assembly Kit (40003918-006) is required first to upgrade the old valve body to accept a replaceable head, and must be purchased separately. If the existing valve has a removable head (secured by 2 screws), the 40003916-001 fits directly. If it does not, use the plate kit or replace the complete valve.
Features & Benefits
✔ No Drain-Down — System Stays Full
The entire heating system remains full and pressurised during the powerhead swap. The valve body stays screwed into the pipework; only the motorised head is removed. This means there is no need to drain radiators, refill the system, re-dose inhibitor, or re-pressurise a sealed system — the repair is complete in under 10 minutes from isolation to restoration of heating. This is the most significant practical advantage of the V4043H's design, and why replacing the head rather than the whole valve is the correct and most cost-effective repair.
✔ Genuine Honeywell Home Part
The 40003916-001 is the official Honeywell Home replacement powerhead — not a generic compatible copy. Using the genuine part ensures identical electrical and mechanical characteristics to the original motor, the correct end switch operation (which fires the boiler and runs the pump), and the correct spring return force. Generic replacements can have different switching thresholds, different torque characteristics, or different cable colour coding — all of which can cause wiring or timing issues after installation.
✔ Fits All V4043H Series — 22mm, 28mm & 1" BSP
The 40003916-001 powerhead is compatible with all current V4043H and V4043C valve bodies — including the V4043H1056 (22mm), V4043H1106 (28mm), V4043H1080 (1" BSP), and earlier V4043C variants. The two-screw, two-peg mounting arrangement is consistent across the range. Note that on the 28mm and 1" BSP valve bodies, the white wire in the cable must be electrically isolated if wiring for S-plan only — refer to the Honeywell wiring instructions for confirmation.
✔ Includes End Switch — Boiler and Pump Control
The replacement head includes the auxiliary end switch — the potential-free switch that closes when the valve reaches fully open and sends the signal to fire the boiler and/or start the circulating pump. This is the switch that provides boiler interlock in S-plan and Y-plan systems. If the original fault was the end switch failing to fire the boiler (rather than the motor failing to open the valve), replacing the complete powerhead restores both the motor operation and the switching function simultaneously.
✔ Spring Return — Fail-Safe Closed
The spring return mechanism is integral to the powerhead. On power removal, the spring closes the valve within 5–6 seconds without any electrical input — the normally closed fail-safe behaviour that prevents uncontrolled heating circulation during power cuts. The replacement head's spring is factory-set to the correct return force for the V4043 ball mechanism; using a valve body with a worn or corroded ball while fitting a new head is less cost-effective than fitting a complete replacement valve.
✔ Pre-Wired 1m Heat-Resistant Cable
Supplied with a 1 metre pre-wired heat-resistant flying lead. In most installations the existing wiring to the junction box or wiring centre can be transferred directly from the old head to the new — the wires should be identical in colour coding and function. If the existing cable run is longer than 1 metre (the head has been replaced before with an extended cable, or the wiring centre is further away than usual), note this before ordering.
When Is the Powerhead the Right Repair?
Replace the powerhead (rather than the whole valve) when:
  • Valve fails to open — the motor is not turning, or is humming but not moving (seized motor).
  • Valve opens but boiler does not fire — the end switch has failed.
  • Valve fails to close fully — the spring has weakened or the motor is not releasing (motor sticking at open position).
  • Valve is noisy — motor grinding or clicking during operation.
  • Valve body is in good condition — the ball valve seals are not leaking and there is no corrosion on the body. If the body itself is faulty (leaking, corroded, seized ball), a complete replacement valve is more appropriate.

Do not replace the powerhead if: the valve body is leaking at the compression joints, the ball is seized closed (will not manual-lever open), or the valve is a pre-1987 non-replaceable-head model without first obtaining the 40003918-006 plate kit.
