Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the M7 250L take to recover a full tank of hot water?

In heat pump-only mode at 7°C ambient, the HP250M7-F9 heats from 10°C to 55°C in approximately 10 hours 51 minutes (HP250M7C-F9: 10 hours 09 minutes). Performance improves at higher ambient temperatures. Activating Dual Power mode — heat pump + 1,500W electric element simultaneously at 2,035W combined — significantly reduces recovery time. For most households, scheduling an overnight heat-up on an off-peak tariff covers daily demand with ease.

What is the difference between the HP250M7-F9 and HP250M7C-F9?

The HP250M7-F9 is the standard model with no heat exchanger coil, suitable for standalone operation. The HP250M7C-F9 includes an internal coil enabling connection to a solar thermal collector, central heating system or boiler backup — usable tank volume is 240L due to the coil.

External dimensions and heat pump performance are identical on both.

Will the M7 work efficiently in a cold UK winter?

Yes. The M7 operates down to -7°C ambient, including cold garages and unheated utility rooms. The COP at 7°C is 3.21 (EN16147). In extreme cold, Dual Power mode activates automatically to maintain supply. The V40 usable volume of 313L at 7°C ensures a generous buffer even during prolonged cold spells.

Does the M7 need to be installed indoors?

Yes — the M7 is designed for indoor installation in a well-ventilated space such as a garage, utility room, plant room or loft. It can also be ducted via the 160mm air connection to draw air from an adjacent room or from outside. It must not be installed in a sealed, unventilated room as this would progressively reduce efficiency.

Can it be connected to a solar PV system?

Yes. The M7 has an external signal input for PV-triggered operation. When paired with a compatible solar diverter or export controller, the unit automatically switches to heating mode when excess solar generation is available. The HP250M7C-F9 can also connect directly to solar thermal collectors via its internal coil.

🔧 Installation Notes

The Haier M7 250L is a mains-pressure heat pump water heater and must be installed by a suitably qualified engineer in accordance with Water Regulations, G3 Building Regulations (or equivalent notification), and the manufacturer's installation manual.
